WHAT WE SERVE:
Scotch ale is the strongest of all "Scottish" ales. It is sometimes called "wee heavy," or the Scottish equivalent of England’s barley wines. Scotland’s cool, damp climate is best suited to the growth of barley, and thus the country’s brewers became accustomed to working with minimal quantities of hops (which they were not anxious to purchase from England).
Scotch ales are rich and malty and often accented with a touch of peat-smoked whiskey malt. Unlike the lighter "Scottish" ales, this is an authentic heavy Scotch ale. It is lightly hopped with a strong malt character, and a hint of peaty smokiness. Warm fermentation produces fruity esters and balances the sweet malt character. Enjoy with hearty and flavorful fare such as shephard's pie, which you can purchase from The Water Hound booth at the Games.
Want to try a lighter ale? Then Naughty Nellie's is for you!
A salute to Nellie Curtis, who once ran an infamous "bawdy house" at the Pike Pub's original brewery location. During World War II, Nellie took over a lease on the Outlook Hotel at the foot of Pike Street and renamed it the "LaSalle," possibly after the General Motors' luxury automobile. Her attempts at discretion were thwarted by as many as 1,000 sailors lining up at the door for a "ride." Nellie kept the motor running for nearly a decade before selling the hotel to new owners who, to the disappointment of many a lonely mariner, turned it into a legitimate hotel.

Nellie's is a mildly hopped beer with a complex malt character, and a soft creamy head. Soft and fruity with light yeast esters of apricot and orange. It is a refreshing and crisp session beer, with just enough hops to balance and round out the sweetness of the malt. Wonderful as an aperitif beer or as a summer refresher.
